FY26 HMIS Data Standards - Required Training

FY26 HMIS Data Standards Update - Required Training

Background

The new FY26 Data Standards Changes are effective October 1, 2025.  All clients in any program on or after 10/1/2025 must be updated to reflect these updates in data collection requirements.

Here updates for  ALL project types in the Universal Data Elements:

  • Sex Field
    • HUD defines sex as sex assigned at birth. This has been added to all program enrollments and is required.
  • OPTIONAL Field: Gender
    • This is no longer required. Gender identity is a person’s internal perception of themselves and may not match the sex they were assigned at birth. This element records one’s gender identity and not sex assigned at birth. This field is located on the profile screen and now designated as optional.
  • Race and Ethnicity Updates
    • Hispanic/Latina/o
      • Removed gender neutral /e/.

There are also  program specific updates for RHY, YHDP and VA funded programs.
